Mosque All villages in Brunei have at least one mosque. It means more than 100 mosques in such a small country!

15 min drive will bring you to Jame'asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, the biggest mosque in the country. It was built to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sultan reign. It's really gorgeous and luxurious, especially the chapel inside. It's pity photos are not allowed inside. R0012481 R0012482 R0012483 R0012479

In city area I stayed in the capital Bandar Seri Begawan. The population of Brunei is less than 500, 000 and the population in the capital is only 140, 000! Brunei is an Oil country so that oil are super-cheap and not many people are walking in the town. I guess they are two of the reasons for coziness of the country.

Ulu Temburong National Park It's the highlight of my trip! A Long boat brought me to inside of the Borneo jungle. Borneo is famous for their tropical animals, however this time I went Ulu Temburong National Park for canopy walk so that mainly enjoyed their tropical forest. As I was grown up in a mountain area in Japan, I felt at home when I rode a long boat in the narrow river. The scenery made me remember that my dad sometimes brought me to a river in mountains and let me play there.

The Empire Hotel I told a local guide that I would stay in the Empire Hotel. Then he said to me, "the Empire hotel is tremendously big! You can even live in their bath room!!" Yes, it was huuuge! A bathroom has a toilet, a bidet, a shower room, a bath tub, and two basin... And certainly, the floor is made of marble. Apart from a bathroom, it's still a huge and gorgeous hotel. It's quite reasonable to spend 250B$ (The price varies with the seasons) for 1 night in a normal room. If you wish, you can stay in the Emperor Sweet which famous politicians and celebrities stay when they come Brunei with 16,600B$ :) R0012545

ひょんなご縁のシンガポール友達さっちんの旅行ブログはいつもとても楽しそう。香港に行ったりスリランカに行ったりとても活動的なさっちん、９月にはブルネイに行って王女様と握手してきたそうです！　とても楽しそうな旅行記を読んでいると、自分も旅に出たくなります。

・・・というわけで、私もブルネイに行ってきました。3泊4日。結果的にさっちんたちの旅程とほとんどかぶらなかったけど、ブルネイ楽しい！という感想は同じです。彼女はブルネイを「マイルドなムスリム国家」と表していましたが、私の印象は「豊かでのどかなボルネオのはしっこの小さな国」。のんびりとした休日を過ごしてきました。

モスク ブルネイはムスリム国家。各村に１つはモスクがあります。そのため小さな国ですが100以上のモスクがあるそうです。（モスクの中では写真撮影が禁止されているので、写真は外観だけ。） *Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque 首都Bandar Seri Begawanの中心地に威風堂々とたたずむモスク。日常的に使われているため、観光客が入れる時間は限られていました。毎日夕方になるとここから祈りの声が町中に響き渡ります。 R0012460 R0012459 R0012457 R0012465

***Jame'asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque 中心部から車で15分程度走ったところにある、ブルネイ最大のモスク。（現在の）スルタン統治25周年を記念して建造されたそうです。とにかくでかい。思わず遊んじゃいたくなるくらいでかいです。キラキラピカピカの礼拝堂は一見の価値あり。礼拝堂内を写真でお見せできないのが残念です・・・。 R0012481 R0012482 R0012483 R0012479

**マチナカ 主に首都Bandar Seri Begawanに滞在してきました。といっても全国人口が50万人に満たないブルネイ、首都人口はたったの14万人です。そしてガソリンが水より安い石油富豪の国なので、とっても車社会。人が歩く場所はのんびりしたもので、車がたくさん走っている以外はとってものどかな環境です。

こちらは朝のマーケット風景。ボルネオの大自然に囲まれて川も海もあるお国柄か、魚もたくさん売っていました。もちろん南国のフルーツもたくさん。ボルネオでは国内で採れる野菜や果物が国内消費にまわされるそうです。シンガポールでは野菜も果物もお肉も魚も全部輸入品。それに比べてボルネオは豊かな国だな・・・と想いました。 R0012467 R0012468 R0012469 R0012471

こちらはスルタンの生涯や宝飾品、各国からのいただきものを展示する博物館The Royal Regalia Building。中は撮影禁止でしたが、１階に飾られていたSilver Jubilee Chariots（銀の祝祭馬車）のみ撮影OKでした。 R0012454 R0012456

他にSeliaという石油発掘で有名な村にも行ってきました。石油発掘施設が村中に・・・というか、石油関連施設しかない村でした。

テンブロン国立公園 Ulu Temburong National Park ブルネイはボルネオ島の一角にあります。ボルネオは野生動物の宝庫として有名。今回は動物を見に行くツアーではありませんでしたが、ジャングルの中をロングボートで移動して森の中を歩いて・・・とても気持ちよかったです。自分は山育ちなので、海よりも川の上流部のほうが落ち着きます。子供の頃に秩父のほうに川遊びに連れて行ってもらったなーと思い出しながら森林浴を楽しみました。 川を上ってジャングルへ R0012529 R0012496 R0012536 R0012533 ジャングルのなか R0012527 R0012498 R0012499 R0012522 R0012530 R0012531 キャノピーウォーク R0012516 R0012514 R0012512 **森の奥の滝 R0012537 R0012538 R0012539 R0012535

**The Empire Hotel テンブロン国立公園でお世話になった現地ガイドさんに「今日はThe Empire Hotelに泊まるんだ！」というと「Empire Hotelは めちゃめちゃ広いぞ！　バスルームも住めるくらい広いぞ！」とコメントを貰う。で、到着してバスルームに入ると、日本人感覚としては本当に「住める！」広さ。トイレ・ビデ・シャワー・バスタブがそれぞれ１つずつ、洗面台が２つありました（写真撮り忘れてしまった・・・）。バスルームの壁や床は全部大理石です。 それ以外にもとにかく広くて豪華なホテルなので、通常の部屋で一泊250ドル（1.6万円くらい）は全然安い！（時期によって値段は変動）　ちなみに各国大統領や大使が来たときに泊まるというEmperor Sweetは１泊16,600ドル（108万円くらい）です。 R0012545

**アクセス シンガポールからは飛行機で２時間。私はRoyal Bruneiを使いましたが、遅れもなく快適なフライトでした。日本からは、以前は名古屋から直行便が出てたらしいですが、今はシンガポールかクアラルンプールを経由しなくてはなりません。もしかするとタイ経由でも来れるかも？（未確認）

**ちなみに 日本語では「ブルネイ」と書きますが、英語発音だと「ブルナイ」のほうが近しい音です。 公用語はマレー語ですが、だいたいのひとは英語も問題なく使ってました。
