TEDxBiopolis

On Sep 11th, I went to the event called "Sharing Singapore’s Best Ideas" which was held at Biopolis in Singapore.

The most impressive speech for me was one by WTO founder.
WTO stands for World Toilet Organization, not World Trade Organization :)

A Singaporean founder of WTO, Jack Sim's talk was very funny and made us laugh a lot, and at the same time, he let us think about toilet in the world, especially in poor countries.
It's unbelievable to hear "over 2.6 billion people do not have access to basic sanitation."
He continues, "toilets are usually not prioritized. People usually buy mobile phones, TVs, computers, etc. something look cool at first."

It's very serious matter, but his presentation was really funny.
He said, "to let people hear me, I will make them laugh," and he did it!

I wonder why no Japanese sanitation company are listed.
TOTO/INAX should become their sponsor, I believe.

９月１１日にBiopolisで行われたTED風イベント"Sharing Singapore’s Best Ideas"を見てきました。

バックグラウンドの異なる９人のスピーカーが順番にプレゼンテーションを行うイベント。どんな人が出ているかは、こちらで確認できます。

一番印象的だったのはWTOの・・・といってもワールド・トレード・オーガナイゼーションではなく・・・ワールド・トイレット・オーガナイゼーションの創業者のスピーチ。

Jack Simというシンガポール人のおじさんの話はとても面白く、会場は笑いの渦に巻き込まれました。
そして皆、笑いながらも「世界で２６億人以上の人が基本的な衛生設備にアクセスできないでいる」「トイレはいつも後回しにされる。携帯電話や立派なテレビを持っている人が、道ばたをトイレとして使っていることも珍しくない」等の深刻な状況について知りました。

トイレについて話を聞いてもらうためには皆を笑わせるのが一番だと冒頭に述べていた通り、彼のプレゼンは素晴らしかったです。
プレゼン中でWTOのスポンサーを一覧にしたリストがありましたが、日本の企業が入っていなかったのが残念。
TOTOかINAXがWTOをサポートしていないだなんておかしい！と、一日本人として思いました。
